Checky vs Geekbot
Geekbot runs standups inside Slack and Microsoft Teams. Checky runs check-ins in the browser, by email and from ChatGPT or Claude – hosted or on your own server.
In short
Geekbot is a mature standup bot for Slack and Microsoft Teams. The free Starter plan covers up to 10 users; Basic costs $2.50 per participant per month billed annually ($3 monthly). SSO/SAML is an Enterprise feature.
Checky isn't a chat bot. People answer in the web app, by replying to the reminder email or through ChatGPT and Claude (MCP). In return you get absences and public holidays that pause check-ins, anonymous wellbeing aggregates, SSO on every plan and the option to run it yourself with a one-time licence.
Checky fits better if …
- You want a flat price per team size instead of per seat
- You need to self-host or keep data on your own infrastructure
- Part of your team doesn't live in Slack or Teams
- Absences and holidays should pause check-ins automatically
- You want SSO without an Enterprise contract
Geekbot fits better if …
- Your team lives in Slack or Teams and should answer right there
- You're 10 people or fewer and want a free tool
- You need a vendor with ISO 27001 certification (per Geekbot's security page)

Switching from Geekbot to Checky
- 1
Export your standup history from Geekbot (CSV export is available on Basic and above) and keep it as an archive. Checky can't import Geekbot data yet.
- 2
Pick where Checky runs: hosted at yourteam.checky.team (14-day trial, no card), on your own Cloudflare account (one-click deploy) or with Docker on your own server.
- 3
Recreate your questions as checks: schedule (e.g. weekdays at 9:00), type (yes/no, rating, text or KPI), expected answer and reaction window.
- 4
Invite your team or connect SSO (Google, Microsoft, OIDC or SAML) and verify your email domain so colleagues join automatically.
- 5
Add absences and public holidays so nobody gets asked while they're off.
- 6
Run both tools in parallel for a week or two, then switch Geekbot off. Your Checky data exports as one SQLite file whenever you want to move between hosted and self-hosted.
Questions
Is Checky cheaper than Geekbot?
It depends on team size. Up to 10 users, Geekbot's free plan costs nothing. For larger teams, see the 3-year table: Checky hosted is a flat price per team size and self-host is a one-time licence, while Geekbot Basic is charged per participant per month.
Does Checky work inside Slack or Microsoft Teams?
Not yet. Checky sends reminders by email; people answer in the web app, by replying to the email or from ChatGPT or Claude. If answering inside Slack is a must, Geekbot is the better fit today.
Can I keep my data in the EU?
Yes. With a self-host licence you run Checky with Docker or on your own Cloudflare account, wherever you want. Geekbot offers an EU Data Boundary deployment; its pricing page lists enhanced data storage under Enterprise.
Can I import my Geekbot history?
Not automatically. Export it from Geekbot as CSV and keep it as an archive, then set up your questions in Checky as checks – that takes a few minutes.
